Many patients who opt for implant-retained dentures are existing wearers looking for a more secure, comfortable solution and freedom from messy denture adhesive.
An implant-retained denture fitting involves placing a small number of implants into the jaw — at least two per arch, in most cases.
If you’re a new wearer, your dentures will be made with special attachments that allow them to fix on to your implants. If you’re an existing wearer, your current dentures can be retrofitted to make them compatible.
Either way, you simply click your dentures into place on top of your implants, providing you with additional security and comfort while retaining the convenience to remove your teeth as necessary.
Another benefit of implant-retained dentures over standard ones is that chewing force is transferred to the jaw rather than the gums. Not only does this reduce discomfort, but it also stimulates the growth of new bone cells in your jaw.
The regeneration of your jaw can help reverse the effects that bone loss may have had on your facial appearance. Many conventional denture wearers find their face begins to sag over time, making them appear older than they are.
Implant-retained dentures can help you turn back the clock.

Implant Retained Dentures Glasgow FAQs
With proper care and maintenance, implants can last you a lifetime, but dentures fixed on top will likely need to be replaced after 10-15 years, due to wear and tear on the porcelain.
Again, with the right upkeep, they could last you much longer, and to increase their longevity make sure to:
Steer clear of hard and sticky foods – hard or sticky foods require you to use a lot more force to bite into them, making chips, cracks and breakages all the more likely.
Whilst this procedure is an invasive one, this isn’t to say that it hurts, as such.
You may feel some discomfort and pressure as the implant is inserted into your jawbone, but thanks to the anaesthetic we use beforehand, it won’t cause any intense pain.
It’s normal for patients to feel some tenderness during the healing process, but this is nothing that a dose of over-the-counter painkillers can’t fix.
You may also experience some swelling post-procedure, and this can be minimised by applying an ice pack to the affected area for ten minutes every hour.

Your gums will also need to be healthy, which means if you currently have gum disease, you’ll need to treat this first before undergoing implant treatment.
Implant-retained dentures don’t come cheap, and the price you’ll pay depends on several different factors, including:
