Orthodontics Glasgow - Shawlands Dental Care

Orthodontics in Glasgow at Shawlands Dental Care

Here at Shawlands Dental Care, we offer several different solutions to help you straighten out your smile, including:

  • Quick Straight Teeth in Glasgow
The Quick Straight Teeth system uses almost invisible braces to straighten your teeth in as little as six months.
  • Invisalign in Glasgow
A much more comfortable and discreet option than traditional braces, Invisalign will help you achieve your smile goals within just 12-18 months.
  • Ceramic braces in Glasgow
Using tooth-coloured brackets and wires, ceramic braces are virtually inconspicuous and ideal for those with severe misalignment and malformed bites.
  • Six Month Smiles in Glasgow
This system improves the appearance of your teeth (and your confidence!) in just six months by bonding discreet clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires to the surface of your teeth.
  • CFast in Glasgow
The CFast system quickly and discreetly straightens out your six front teeth on the lower or upper arch by applying slight pressure with tooth-coloured nickel-titanium archwires.

With so many different treatments to choose from, it can be difficult to know which is best. Not to worry – during your initial consultation with our orthodontists in Glasgow, we’ll discuss everything with you and assess your teeth to determine the most suitable option for you, your lifestyle, and your smile goals.

How do teeth straightening treatments work?

Whether you choose traditional fixed braces or more modern Invisalign clear aligners, the end goal is still the same. However, different treatment options help you achieve your dream smile in different ways.

Whereas metal braces, for example, are fixed to your teeth and apply constant pressure to gradually shift your teeth into your desired position, solutions like Invisalign and other removable clear braces straighten your teeth in a series of different stages with custom-made clear aligners.

These aligners need to be swapped out every two weeks until they have reached their final position, and only need to be worn for up to 22 hours a day – meaning you can take them out to eat, drink and clean your teeth as normal.

During your initial orthodontic consultation with our professional team in Glasgow, we’ll discuss the process and how it works from start to finish to ensure you have the best understanding of your chosen treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no age limit for braces.

We often see patients in their twenties, thirties and even their forties looking to straighten their smile, and so long as your teeth and gums are in good condition and you’re healthy, you should be able to get braces, no problem!

However, because the jaw is fully developed, treatment may take a little longer, just because the bone and teeth are well set.

This doesn’t mean that movements aren’t possible, though, and even as an adult patient, you can achieve the pin-straight smile of your dreams.

With so many different treatment options available, choosing the right one for you can feel like a bit of a difficult task.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind when making your decision:

  • Your budget – of course, some orthodontic treatments are more expensive than others, so you need to make sure the treatment you choose is within your budget
  • Your lifestyle – braces have come a long way since bulky metal wires and brackets, and there are now options available to suit everyone. Think – would visible wires make you feel insecure? Do you need something you can remove to eat and clean your teeth?

Your treatment goals – if you have severe misalignments or bite problems, some treatment options will be better than others at helping correct them. Discussing your goals with your orthodontist should help determine which option is best for you.

Whereas a dentist specialises in teeth, gums nerves and the jaw, orthodontists deal exclusively with teeth straightening, bite corrections and occlusion (the way your teeth come in contact with one another).

This doesn’t mean that an orthodontist can’t deal with any other problems you have with your teeth or gums, and they can perform all the same treatments that a dentist can – the only difference is they have additional qualifications that allow them to specialise in orthodontic care.

Both dentists and orthodontists also share the same goal of helping you achieve a happy, healthy smile!
