Botulinum Toxin Treatments (E.g. BOTOX®)

Wrinkless happens to us all eventually. As we age, the tone of the muscles in our face increases, resulting in wrinkles. Wrinkles are made worse by smoking and sun exposure.

Many people, unhappy with these wrinkles, try to turn back the clock by undergoing procedures like Botulinum (E.g. BOTOX®) treatments and injections of dermal fillers (e.g. Juvéderm® or Restylane®).

At Shawlands Dental Care, we offer a wide range of Facial Aesthetics Treatments including wrinkle reductions treatments, dermal fillers or lip fillers.

Fillers and Botulinum Toxin Treatments (E.g. BOTOX®) explained

Botox Glasgow - Wrinkle Reduction and Dermal FillersInjections of botulinum toxin work to paralyze the facial muscles whose contractions cause the wrinkles, temporarily smoothing them.

Fillers work differently, and the fillers we use at Shawlands Dental Care are all made from a complex sugar molecule called Hyaluronic acid (frequently referenced in beauty product adverts). Its inert and restores lost internal fat deposits that create the shape and contours of our faces.

Both Injections of botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox ®) and dermal filler treatments last between 4 and 6 months until the body breaks down the material.

Botulinum (e.g. Botox ®) injections, however, are usually the first step in facial rejuvenation, and deeper wrinkles also require filled with dermal filler. Dermal Fillers can also be used to give the lips, nose, jaw and other parts of the face for a fuller look.

The proper injection of both Botulinum (e.g. Botox ®)  and dermal fillers require the patient to undergo a full facial assessment, to ensure not only that the patient is suitable for these treatments, but also that the treatments available would fulfil their specific expectations.

Botulinum Toxin treatment results are not immediate.  The substance can take anywhere between 48hrs and 14 days to take full effect. Filler results are near instant, but there can be some swelling immediately after placement making the result around 20 fullers, but only for 2-3 days. In both cases, a review appointment is required 2 weeks later to check the results.

Currently, Botulinum (e.g. Botox ®) treatments are available across 3 areas in the upper face. The area between the eyebrows and above the bridge of the nose, called the Glabella, the forehead with horizontal wrinkles, and around the outside of the eyes.

Fillers can be used across most of the face, most commonly on the lines from the nose to mouth. mouth angles to jawline, lips, and cheekbone area. There are a few others but options are best discussed with the clinician at the initial assessment.
