Are you nervous or afraid of having dental treatment carried out?

We aim to achieve high standards of patient care ensuring that all members of staff are kind gentle helpful and understanding of patients’ fears. By doing this we hope that we can make your visit to Shawlands Dental Care as stress-free as possible.

We have found that many patients who experience negative feelings towards attending the dentist or having dental treatment carried out are often unhappy with the condition of their teeth or the way their teeth look and will only attend when they experience a toothache. This is very common and therefore we would like to ensure patients that we are here to take care of your dental needs and will be empathetic towards your dental worries. In doing so, we hope to help you in your journey to overcome your fear of the dentist.

If you have any concerns about your teeth but are worried about attending the practice please do not hesitate to call Shawlands Dental care on 01416321378 or e-mail us on info@shawlandsdentalcare.co.uk and a friendly, caring member of staff will be happy to discuss your options.

Dental Sedation Glasgow

Relaxing after Dental sedation in GlasgowAt Shawlands Dental Care we offer sedation dentistry. We have several sedation dentists within the practice who offer conscious sedation. This is a treatment which can be available privately or on the NHS dependent on the dental needs of the patient. You do not need to be registered with ourselves to have treatment carried out under sedation at Shawlands Dental Care. If you are registered with another dentist who does not offer dental sedation you can request them to refer you to the sedation dentists at our practice just to have your treatment carried out.

Intravenous Sedation

Intravenous sedation or IV sedation can be extremely successful for nervous patients. This is carried out by the sedation dentist using a drug called midazolam which is usually given through a small injection into the back of your hand. IV sedation does not make you fall asleep. You will be awake for the full procedure and be able to talk with the dentist however the drug relaxes and calms you so deeply that most people tend not to remember much of what happened. If you have any further questions regarding IV sedation or your suitability please do not hesitate to contact Shawlands Dental Care on 01416321378 or e-mail us at info@shawlandsdentalcare.co.uk

Tips for nervous patients attending Shawlands Dental Care

  • Call the practice on 01416321378 or e-mail on info@shawlandsdentalcare.co.uk and let us know that you are worried, scared, anxious or nervous
  • If possible book an appointment early in the day so that you have less time to worry about it
  • You may want to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointment for a bit of support
  • Remember that your first appointment will only be a check-up (or if you are a referred patient it will only be an assessment), in which we can discuss your thoughts and needs and provide you with the best plan. We would not pressure any patient in to having treatment carried out straight away.
